My Approach
When you hear a friend’s name, what comes to mind? Plenty of memories, to be sure, along with jokes you’ve shared, the color of their hair, that t-shirt they wear maybe a little too often, maybe a phone number, their most recent instagram post, multitudes right? All of that is unlocked in your brain by a single word, as if their name is the key to unlock a treasure trove of emotions and experiences surrounding them.
To me, that’s what good graphic design should do too. A single logo, a simple, humble symbol, should be able to unlock an explosion of information in your brain at its sight. From there, the entirety of brand design is capturing that explosion of inspiration into the visual language of color and shape.
Good design is simple, but never reductive. It says what it needs to, and lets your imagination fill in the rest. It speaks in refined, well considered strokes so that complex ideas and personalities are expressed boldly and eloquently.
